SCRIPTURAL READING IN CONTEXT:
Jeremiah 51:21-23 “Thou art my battle axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms; And with thee will I break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with thee will I break in pieces the chariot and his rider; With thee also will I break in pieces man and woman; and with thee will I break in pieces old and young; and with thee will I break in pieces the young man and the maid; I will also break in pieces with thee the shepherd and his flock; and with thee will I break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and with thee will I break in pieces captains and rulers’’
Proverbs 21:31 “The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD’’
2 Samuel 11:1-5 “And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem. And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. And David sent and inquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bath-sheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house. And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child’’.
Jeremiah 12:5 “If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?’’
PROPHETIC DECLARATION: You Are More Than!
Romans 8:35-39 “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord”.
One great asset in life is to know that God loves you and cares about you no matter the turmoil about you. Knowing that life under the sun is engrossed with battles and various ups and downs as the scripture of Romans 8:35-39 above does indicate. Challenges and life circumstances could come or manifest in different forms. Sometimes its PHYSICAL in terms of man-made and or of natural disasters, such as will cause famine which is hunger resulting – austerity and or distress, persecution, nakedness, peril, war, tribulations, death and many such likes physical ailments; it could also be SPIRITUAL which could be demonic and satanic cohorts activities classified as – principalities, powers and spiritual wickedness operating in spiritual realms and such likes sphere.
May I enjoin you to know that by the Holy write of Ephesians 1:19-23, there’s the exceedingly greatness of our God in Christ Jesus; It also indicates that Christ is the head over all principalities and powers and dominion and more that be, and as such nothing can by any means hurt you if you are of Christ as also written in Luke 10:17-20. Meaning, whatsoever life battle you seems to be dealing with today, your love in Christ is capable of putting all under your feet and control according to the scriptures.
Ephesians 1:19-23 “And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, 20 which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 22 and hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, 23 which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all”.
Luke 10:17-20 “And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. 18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. 19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven”.
And nothing can by any means rob you of the love you have in Christ Jesus because you are more than a conqueror and God’s battle axe and weapons of war to bring down the forces of evil and wickedness under their feet. While battle means to contend against in war or as if in a war, a battle axe is an ancient military weapon. This weapon is borne on arms as a mark of prowess, indicating a formidable or belligerent. Upon this knowledge and understanding I make this prophetic declaration concerning you:
“As God’s battle axe and weapon of war, you will not be separated from the love of Christ by any known or unknown tribulation, distress, persecution, or famine, nakedness, peril and sword. As a more than conquerors through Christ who loved you, I pray that the Holy Spirit of persuasion will overwhelm you in such a manner that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate you from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. I declare that you will not fail in grace and life as God’s battle axe and weapons of war in Jesus precious name, Amen!”
AFD FEBRUARY 2021 EDITION
PREAMBLE: There Are Battle’s in Life Under The Sun!
Proverbs 21:31 “The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD’’
Battles speak of a fight, contention, conflict and the struggle that we go through in our lifetime and more. Proverbs 21:31 intimate us of battle in life even as other scriptures of 1 Timothy 1:18 and 1 Timothy 6:12 and 2 Timothy 4:7 also referred to life battles as war, warfare and a fight of ones faith in life. More so, there’s the need to get ready or prepared for life battles as the horse is always made ready before her use for any purpose.
2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith’’ 1 Timothy 1:18 “This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare’’
1 Timothy 6:12 “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses’’.
John 16:33 “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world’’
I remember a prayer scenario in which a young man came to meet his Pastor for prayers in order to get rid of any problems then and in future. The Pastor with all sincerity asked him to kneel, laid his hand on him and prayed this prayer – “Lord, since this young man cannot take any more problems, kill him and take him home early” – hearing this, the young man stopped the Pastor. He learnt from here, that under the sun, battles, conflicts, struggles, challenges and fights – are real to life either directly or indirectly, but with God’s grace you can do life in the midst of a problem filled life or world. Reason being that we are more than conquerors through Christ that loves us and we are God’s battle-axe and weapons of war as the scriptures of Romans 8:37 and Jeremiah 51:21-23 do indicates.
When I consider closely all the various battles in course of life, that I have fought and still fighting to keep my faith in Christ afloat; and others that has come and happened to families whom I have had the privilege of hearing their cries and pains; you will know also that there are life battles, and they are real indeed. More also, when you listen to the different news still going on in the media and through the various formats of the internet day by day you can also concur to the realities of life battles people are undergoing at various phases. However, when you do see and hear some believers act and speak as a people without hope and God in this world you are bound to wonder what has become an issue today. I am bound to trust God that this AFD FEBRUARY 2021 EDITION will bring about an awakening and leverage to each one of us life battles into a place of triumph and desired dreams and fulfilment.
As we’ve known already that battles speak of a fight, contention, conflict and the struggle that we go through in our lifetime and more as Jesus would sum it up in John 16:33 that there are and would be problems in the world challenging our faith, but we should be of good cheer because through Him we are overcomers. Hence for our alertness and awareness the Scripture of 1 Timothy 6:12 enjoins us to fight the good fight or battle of life as it can affect our faith walk with God. 1 Timothy 1:18 charge us about waring a good warfare, which indicates there’s a bad fight or warfare there also in cause of life. Apostle Paul does understand this life battles very well, hence in 2 Timothy 4:7, he said he has fought a good fight of his faith. Meaning, battles come to challenge our faith in Christ and our preparedness to fight and triumph makes us God’s battles axe. All the enemies’ intent daily is to rob us of our steadfastness in faith, so that he can get holds of every other thing about us in life and godliness.
As an achiever in Christ Jesus and more importantly as God’s battle axe and weapon of war, you need not take things for granted as some may. A lot of Christians jump into the life endeavours with great excitements, but unarmed and unprepared, thereby end up being casualties of any problems that come their way instead of being victors as the scripture enjoins in Christ Jesus.
2 Corinthians 10:3-6 declares that for though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh, simply because the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, that is, man-made, but are mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds; casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought and vain imaginations to the obedience of Christ; and having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when our obedience is fulfilled. Also the scripture of Ephesians 6:11-12 requires us to put on the whole armour of God, that we may be able to stand and withstand against the wiles, that is the strategies, mode of operando and the technics of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, meaning human flesh, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. In order to be readily armed and not being taken unaware, 1 Peter 5:8-9 alerts us to be sober and be vigilant, because our adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour: whom we have to resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in our brethren that are in the world.
We are constantly engaged in life battles – they are real, be it natural, spiritual or man-made. We need to realise and acknowledge these realities. Some of the battles can have a very severe and strong emotional, physiological effect in one’s life resulting a moral breakdown and permanent delusion. Some people as a result have taken their own life equally when they couldn’t manage or deal with the issues about them. Herein are some of the factors that we can attribute to life battles or contentions affecting people inwardly or outwardly:
- Bereavement
- Mental & psychological battles
- Emotional problems
- Spiritual battles
- Financial battles
- Health problems
- Social problems
- Peer pressure
- Marital/Relationship strife or breakdowns
- Business/Entrepreneur/Career instability
- Wars (Family, Community, Nations)
- Insecurity/Terrorism
- Natural disasters
- . . . And many others.
Some of these battles come with no warning whatsoever and are in various sizes and phases.
GOD’S BATTLE AXE: That’s What You Are!
Jeremiah 51:21-23 ‘’Thou art my battle axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms; And with thee will I break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with thee will I break in pieces the chariot and his rider; With thee also will I break in pieces man and woman; and with thee will I break in pieces old and young; and with thee will I break in pieces the young man and the maid; I will also break in pieces with thee the shepherd and his flock; and with thee will I break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and with thee will I break in pieces captains and rulers’’
Proverbs 21:31 “The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD’’
Psalm 18:38-40 “I have wounded them that they were not able to rise: they are fallen under my feet. For thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle: thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me. Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies; that I might destroy them that hate me’’.
Just as the horse was the vehicle in use for battle as Proverbs 21:31 enjoins us – in the same manner we are God’s vehicle to accomplish His plans, purposes and pursuits on earth. The Psalmist, King David knew it well when he made this declaration of triumph in battle in Psalms 18:38- 40, that by His God, he has wounded his enemy and circumstances that they were not able to rise: they are fallen under his feet. For God hast girded him with strength unto the battle: God has subdued under his foot those that rose up against him. The Lord God has also given him the necks of mine enemies; that he might destroy them that hate him.
Also, God was very emphatic while speaking to Jeremiah in Jeremiah 51:21-23, that he is His battle axe and weapon of war to bring forth the change that his people needs. The reason been that the Lord God had made it very clear in the Holy writ that the heaven’s is the Lord’s, but the earth has He given to the children of men to determine and oversee the affairs as in the Holy writs of Psalms 115:16 and Isaiah 45:11-13 and Psalms 8:4-8. So, Jeremiah as spiritual leader with responsibility under God on earth same are we to take charge and control; and to determine the path of our destiny rather than waiting for events of life to dictate who we are and will be on earth in God. Knowing full well that the earth is the Lord’s, the fulness thereof, the world and all they that dwell in it as Psalms 24:1 does enjoin. Hallelujah. Amen.
We serve a royal God and one of the great roles for kings is to ensure safety, security and prosperity for their subjects. We are a royal priesthood – 1 Peter 2:5, 9 – therefore we have a responsibility to keep our place in God safe from the enemy and cohorts intrusion.
Jeremiah 12:5 “If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?’’
We are God’s battle axe and weapons of war to bring about the change and difference not only in our personal lives, but in the life’s of our community, our worlds and all those that we care about, as we serves as God’s ambassador and embassy on earth. Jeremiah 12:5 suffice to say that if one do run with men on foot, and they do wearied you, then how then can you contend with horses? And if in the land of peace, wherein you trusted, they wearied you, then how will you do in the swelling or storm rise of river Jordan? Meaning, if we cannot battle the ant around us how can we battle for others within our reach. I pray that you will be inspired to take the bull by the horns and not to expire as one without hope and aspiration from God. It is the knowing and understanding by the inspiration and revelation insight and foresight as God’s battle axe, that will cause you to aspire to greater heights and fight through to achieve that which you desire in life. The battle axe and weapons of war position is not just a place for defensive battle only, but also an offensive battle position of fortitudes. For In LIFE, you can only POSSESS what you are WILLING and DETERMINE to PURSUE; Life can only offer you the fulness of what you deserves, by the DEMANDS you place on it. That is the fact and truth of life!
Psalms 18:37 “I have pursued mine enemies, and overtaken them: neither did I turn again till they were consumed”
When people come across trials and life battles – the tendency is to give up, quit, back off and go weary and stay lukewarm when it matters most – but the scripture of Luke 18:1 discourages any to be in such stalemate state. God did not find it pleasing with the children of Ephraim who gave up, stayed stalemate and turned back, refused to shoot a single of their armed bow on the day of battle and their brothers were killed and massacred for their negligence. Many are hoping on you indeed. Don’t give up, quit, or back off when there’s hope and assurance ahead if you could patiently endure to the end.
Psalms 78:9 “The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle”.
Meaning if you get weary on a foot battle, how will you contend with ‘horses’ in some pursuits of business, career, marital, family and other personal life affairs? Achievers as God’s battle axe and weapons of war do not give in until victory comes and battle is won. You are an achiever – do not give in or give up or quit; surely, God that sets you up to be His battle axe and weapon of war is determine to bring to fruition everything He has spoken concerning you, only don’t fail Him as admonished by these Scriptures Philippians 1:6 and 2 Corinthians 2:9-10.
GOD’S BATTLE AXE: The Battle Is the Lord’s!
Psalms 24:8 “Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle’’.
Psalms 20:6-8 “Now know I that the LORD saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand. Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright’’.
I heard a story many years ago about a younger boy who was being bullied almost daily at school by a bigger boy. The bigger boy called him names and beat him up and threatened him to the point that the boy lives in fear, low self-esteem and was troubled. Also he couldn’t tell his parents and family because he had been warned if he dare do that of the repercussions and consequences.
One day this younger boy told his father what’s going on after a long persuasion. The father was very upset that he took it upon himself the responsibility of picking him up after school every day. It came to pass that on one particular day as the younger boy saw his father approaching to pick him up, he took a new courage and with fearless synergy to be the one who launch on the bigger student. Indeed, he brought the bigger student down to the amusement of all and the shame of the bigger boy.
That singular act of believe that no matter what happens my dad is here to back me up, became the end of any form of bullying, fear and self-worth low esteem that had plague the young star for that period. The father never got involved, but just the sight of his father alter his believe and that made the difference. The WORD of God is the person of Christ, only by beholding it and acting on accordingly can one make all the difference as admonished by James 1:22-25 “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24 for he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed”. So therefore, THINK!
One basic thing that should always be in the depth of our human spirit and that is; to know that no amount of self-made strength can get us truly out of these battles of life completely no matter how much we try. This is what the Lord was instructing Zerubbabel to know in Zechariah 4:6. He said to Zerubbabel, that the mountains, valleys, crooked road and rough places before him are not resolved just by human power, might and wisdom but by the creative act of the creative Holy Spirit living in us to make it possible as its written “Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts”.
In same scenario as above, we are also enjoined by 1 Samuel 2:9-10 that none can win or prevail in life by a mere human strength without the very act of God to whom all things submit as written “He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail. 10 The adversaries of the Lord shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the Lord shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed”.
If we could sort things out without God indefinitely by our human strength, probably the world credit crunch that’s tormenting and hunting nations, businesses, families and individuals today, would have left only a few in the red which is not so. All are looking for a miracle to deliver them because their strength has come to an end; and every day in the news all we see are just guessed work and probabilities with no emphatic resolve or any claiming to know. The good news is that the battle of life is the Lord’s. You need not fight in your own strength – but to hand it all over to God.
This is what David did to triumph over Goliath as the scripture of 1 Samuel 17:47-49 did affirm:
“And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give you into our hands. AND IT CAME TO PASS, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slung it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth’’.
David knew that His God was bigger than his battle – Goliath. And as God’s battle axe and weapon of war, he could size up his situation with the WORD of God and that makes him bigger than his mountain, hence he battled and walks through it heroically. More so, David knew and understood the almightiness and infinitesimal power of God in saving His anointed of which you are one (God’s battle axe and weapon of war), as he portrayed such confidence in Psalms 20:6-8. David dares to make bold this declaration confidently and assuredly because he knows and understand; knows and understand what? That the LORD saves his anointed one; and He will hear him from his Holy Heaven with the saving strength of His right hand. In that some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember, count on, the name of the LORD our God. Even as 1 John 5:14-15 do assures in this scriptural writ:
“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 and if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him”
More so, and by that name David knows that all battles are brought down and fallen; while we are raised and stand upright at the right hand of the Father God as Ephesians 1:6-8 do exhort in this wise “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) 6 and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: 7 that in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 not of works, lest any man should boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them”. The reason for all this victorious acclamation is as being in the Holy writ record that our God is strong and mighty, He’s the LORD mighty in battle as in Psalms 24:8 “Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle”.
Therefore, let’s commit that marital relationship, family relationship, friendship, business, career, and ministry and ministerial, and financial and such like battle to the Lord; He will definitely fix it up for you in His own mechanism which is beyond human comprehension. It doesn’t matter how small or how big it may appear or look and might have taken, the Lord will fix it again and again. He is the uncreated, creator God. That’s the challenge the Lord pose to Joshua, affirming that He the Lord God is the captain of the battle field of His people if Joshua and his army must be able to win, conquer, overtake and possess the land of Jericho. Know full well that just before this time Joshua and his people, the Israelites has lost the battle to a very small country and army called Ai in comparison to the large army of Israelites as recorded in Joshua 7:1-7; until they fought back and won again by their obedience to God’s leading as recorded in Joshua 7:6-8:35.
And in Joshua 5:13-15, we have this holy writ challenged pose to Joshua to awaken, exhort, admonish and synergise him and his people to take on in any battle especially in the battle fall of Jericho, which there undermined to that defeat of the country of Ai, which is:
Joshua 5:13-15 “And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? 14 And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the Lord am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant? 15 And the captain of the Lord’s host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so’’.
You can triumph over that monster of health, finance, business and relationship breakdown. Don’t give up or own up to the enemy, just keep on keeping on until your miracle comes from the Lord. It’s only what the Lord does that last for ever to authenticate His handwork and His glory in His Church on earth – that includes you.
GODS’S BATTLE AXE: The Horse – It’s Prepared for Battle!
Proverbs 21:31 “The horse is PREPARE against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD”
Job 39:19 “Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou CLOTHED his neck with thunder?”
1 Corinthians 14:8 “For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall PREPARE himself to the battle?”
In scripture the horse is used as a symbol of fleshly strength and might in war or and battle field. The horse is a solid-hoofed domesticated mammal used for pulling carts for war and for pleasure riding and racing. The horse has to be prepared against the day of battle, challenge and or for whatever purpose it may be for. In racing the horse is prepared through intense training – months before the race. Job 39:19-25 indicates that since the horse is given for strength, there is the need to prepare it, especially the neck, for what it takes to accomplish that purpose as Proverbs 21:31 cautiously enjoined. We do know that the horse is limited in human accomplishment as Psalms 20:7-8 and Psalms 33:16-17 and Psalms 147:10-11 may likely suggest; however, for the horse to be of any usefulness, it has to be made ready – PREPARED. I mean made really ready, otherwise such challenge in use will falter and be disastrous at the end.
Psalms 20:7-8 “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God. 8 They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright”.
Psalms 33:16-17 “There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength. 17 An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength”.
Psalms 147:10-11 “He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man. 11 The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy”.
An example of this historical fact of the Battle-Horse made ready or prepared, is in the case of American Indians going to war – the soldier would knot up the horse’s tail to prevent the enemy from taking hold of it and using it to take him down. He would plait the mane to prevent his bow and arrow getting entangled during combat. For war, horses were prepared both for emergency and planned wars. Vet checks, appropriate food for strength, and all necessary training and exercise regimes were carried out. So not only was the horse prepared in order to have speed and strength for the battle but preventative measures were put in place to ensure that the enemy could not pick on its weak areas. The American Indians would also decorate the horse in order to identify with their own and these decorations would usually tell a story about who the Indian and his horse were and were capable of.
In the same scenario we are enjoined in 1 Peter 5:8-11 of the need to be prepared for our battles.
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen”.
Battles are real in life. I’ve mentioned earlier it could be man-made, spiritual and or natural causes. In any case we should be awake and alert as God’s battle axe and weapon of war if we must be able to keep the enemy and the battle at bay and advance the kingdom of God’s plans, purposes and pursuits about our life. The scripture of first Peter chapter 5 above also indicates in verse 9, that this life battles are not particular or peculiar to just you only, but other brethren in faith as you, are taking hold of theirs throughout the world by their steadfast faith in the WORD. Therefore, there’s the need to live prepared and ready because victory, stability maturity, strength and more are available at the end of the tunnel when we keep to faith. Be readily PREPARED!
GODS’S BATTLE AXE : Dare Plan – Be Prepare for Life Battle!
Proverbs 16:1, 3, 7, 9 “The preparations of the heart belong to man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD . . . Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established . . . When a man’s ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. A man’s heart plans his way: but the LORD directs his steps’’
Mark 1:35 ”And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he (Jesus) went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed’’.
Joshua 1:8 “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest OBSERVE to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success’’.
I’ve called back again and again what you very well know, that is, that conflicts are real, battles are real regardless of what people think or the angle from which you are looking. The book of Jeremiah 12:5 challenges us in this form: “If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?”. We are to endeavour not to grow weary when life’s battles come for if we faint for men on foot how then can we compete with big time challenges in our society; especially the battles that affects us all in various phases, sizes and dimensions: family, business, career, relationship, economy, governance and more. The Bible says that if we faint to the opposition against our being able to ensure our faith and to be able to establish in grace in all we do, our faith and strength is then small and weak. That’s what Proverbs 24:10 also affirms “If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small”. In other words, winning life battles is not for fainting hearts and weary or burnt out hearts, which Luke 18:1-8 earnestly discourages the believers in Christ to become. But we are earnestly asked to contend in every battle and win as the widow in context did which is explicitly written:
“And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; 2 saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: 3 and there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. 4 And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; 5 yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. 6 And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. 7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? 8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”
Life battles come to us in various forms, times and seasons, we must be alert or else we will be caught in the net as the holy writ of Ecclesiastes 9:11-12 do exhort – “I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. 12 For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them”. Our archenemy who is the architect of our battles goes to and fro seeking for whom he may devour and disrupt their God given dreams. While the battles belong to the Lord, you have also the responsible of planning and preparing ahead of all battles of life. This is by taking every advantage that time and opportunities in Christ prepares you to plan with, in purpose and pursuit of it. Failing to Plan and prepare, is otherwise the act of planning and preparing to fail in life. And I say to you – GOD FORBIDS!
This act of preparation is the wisdom instruction which Proverbs 16 has conveyed in verses one, three, seven and nine for our perusal. It thus indicates that the preparations of the heart to win, conquer, overcome, triumph and have victory firstly belong to man, and the answer of the tongue to that battle, is determine from the LORD. And when a man’s ways please the Lord, there’s a certain that heavens will answer one speedily. For when a man’s ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. And what pleases God is our Faith in diligent walk of steadfastness in any life battle as Hebrews 11:6 exhorts: “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him”. Hence there’s the need to commit the matter to the LORD, and our thoughts of direction to win and triumph shall be established. A man’s heart plans his way: but the LORD directs his steps to victory.
Learning the principles of life from our lord Jesus Christ who won all His life battles in His earthly life and ministry could be a solid foundation and prerequisite from distractions for us to win our own life battles as the scripture of Hebrews 12:1-2 enjoins us to do as its written: “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God”. I will give you just two principles – not limited however – that will enable you to crush your enemy, more or else in any battle and to achieve your desired goals for life as you plan and prepare with God.
- Principle of Prayer, Fellowship and worship: Mark 1:35 and Luke 18:1 and Jude 20 and Ephesians 6:18 and Acts 6:4 and Psalms 16:11 and Psalms 5:1-3. There’s the need to be alert in the spirit of prayers with God the Father. The act of Fellowship and worship with the Holy Spirit, the chief executive of God’s plans, purpose and pursuits concerning all the happenings about us and in the WORLD today; He will lead you through in all life battles with victory and triumph graciously. You can’t afford to do life battles without the Holy Spirit in Prayers as an achiever in Christ Jesus our Lord if you wants to succeed and be fulfilled in it and in the unveiling of God’s eternal plan purpose and pursuit for your life as inscribed in 1 Corinthians 2:6-16 and Romans 8:29-30 and Ephesians 1:3-15.
- Principle of studying the Word and doing the Word of God: Joshua 1:8 and Acts 6:4 and Psalm 1:1-3 and 2 Timothy 2:15 and 2 Timothy 3:14-17 and James 1:22-25 and Luke 4:1-13. In order to receive revelation, inspiration and empowering to deal with the affairs of life at any level, there’s the need to be a student of the Word. God only respond to His WORD and nothing else. Faith is only as operative as to the WORD being believed and acted upon. Meaning where there’s no act of faith winning life battles with God are an illusion and delusion indeed. – Matthew 22:29; Psalms 103:20; Mark 16:17-20; Romans 14:23; Hebrews 11:1-3, 6; Habakkuk 2:4; Romans 10:17; James 1:22-25. There’s the need all the time to answer battle quest to your life by the word of faith which you believe in. This is the victory that overcomes the world and its systems – ways of living and doing life. 1 John 5:3-5. It thus means – No WORD means No FAITH, which means No VICTORY!
When you know the mind of God, which is in – The WORD – and you saturate it with God’s grace in prayers, you will ever win life battles no matter what it takes and how long it takes. The scripture says that the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God for they are foolishness to him – But we have the mind of Christ, therefore we CAN WIN any day, anywhere and anytime no matter how long it takes – Amen! – 1 Corinthians 2:14-16 and Philippians 4:13.
GODS’S BATTLE AXE : The Consequences of – Being At Ease & Unprepared!
And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child”
Psalms 78:9-11 “The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle. They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law; And forgot his works and his wonders that he had showed them”
Under the sun, the Battles of life most times comes our way with the intent to stop us from achieving God’s purposes in our life as we take our stand in Christ. Idleness and standstill position is one cunning and crafty way it comes and it does not only destroy an individual, it makes those around you suffer the same defeat when you yield to it – as failing in life battles always demands that.
The Church of Christ today of which you are one when you get born again in Christ Jesus was the shadowed Zion or Mounts Zion in Old Testament. The Church is defined as an individual, local and universal Body of Born Again Believers in Christ Jesus under a Shepherd. Mount Zion is the city of the living God, the living Churches of Christ on earth, a city of salvation and deliverance, living with God’s nature which is Holiness; and with the mandate of possessing of possession – an inheritance – in life and godliness in Christ Jesus as typified by Obadiah 1:7 in this wise: “But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions”. More so, in the New Testament, Hebrews 12:22-24 gives the perfect description of what the Church, called mount Zion or Sion truly constitutes when born of God, which is; “But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, 23 to the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, 24 and to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel”.
Now as a Church, which is Zion, we are expected not to be at ease or ill prepared if we must take on our enemy and cohorts in any of our life battles. Reason simply because there’s a curse on all that are at ease and lukewarm in Zion, the Church which is the body of Christ indeed. Amos 6:1 helps to indicate how much it is abhors in Zion, to be at ease and lukewarm: “Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came”.
The book of Revelation 5:9-10 and Revelation 1:5-6 and 1 Peter 2:5, 9 classified all who are redeemed of Christ by His precious blood as kings and priest unto God in His kingdom plans, purposes and pursuits. As royal priesthood of God, we are a chosen generation, more so, a special breed of God. Kings are there to rule and reign in grace, and to exercise power and authority in order to authenticate the vest position of trust and grace bestowed to them. There are there to fight, protect and defend their subjects from injustice and evil that prevails around their domain. A position of higher responsibility and accountability and gracious expectation from the subject; to which much is given, much is also expected and required. However, it was a different scenario for King David.
The Scripture says it was the time when kings go to battle, but David decides not to go to war. He’s the King, supposedly to be the leading example for the subjects, but he chose to be at ease in Zion. As a result of that idleness, being at ease and lukewarm – the devil workshop they say for an idle mind – he fell into adultery that caused him distraction, confusion and family decadence for the rest of his family life. It was just a day off when he should be a day of alertness and being at the battle field as 2 Samuel 1:1-5 summed up: “And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child”. That singular day and act caused David his throne and his life. Just a moment of gratification on a day of battle through idleness or nonchalant attitude or complacence, can ruin everything one had labour to achieve or become in the kingdom. Hence the scriptures did say that he that thinks he stands should take heeds less he falls as enjoined in 1 Corinthians 10:12. For David by that single act began to make so many wrong judgements afterwards and his children went in the same lineage after him. That is the greatest strategy of life. To create a problem which posterity can’t fathom, but suffer same due to the error of another. It was a disruption indeed for the king, his family and his subjects.
Another living example is the Ephraim tribe family. Ephraim is one of the children of Joseph who was blessed by the patriarch Jacob, the Israel of God, while has parting on his work on earth as recorded in the holy writ Scripture of Genesis 48. The children of Ephraim, who are meant to fight in the battle for God’s people, return without a shot from the battle field on the day of battle. What a great disappointment that an army that was fully armed and equipped returns without a shot in the midst of war. Israel was defeated that day, lives were destroyed. That is the kind of pain and disappointment that you get when those much trusted disappoint. It does not only affect them but everyone who ought to share in their grace by divine ordination. Others have to suffer as a result of their misjudgement and being ill-prepared to deal with battles about them. Psalms 78:9-11 indicates it in this form: “The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle. They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law; And forgot his works, and his wonders that he had showed them’’.
And you see it in all areas of life – Marriage, business, career, parenthood, education, name it etc. When people are self-centred, they will never do anything for you on the day of your battle – these are vision and mission killers, they destroy faithful trust and the confidence of others for their selfish reasons. They will put up an excuse, unease, lukewarm, and idleness spirit and more, just to frustrate others efforts, forgetting that all will share in the victory, triumph and breakthroughs when they succeed in grace as David will say in 1 Samuel 30:14-15 in this wise: “. . . but as his part is that goeth down to the battle, so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall part alike . . .”.
This is why you should prepare, live ready and lean on God mostly; and not the kind of men with Ephraim’s and David’s spirit and attitude, especially – on the day of battle.
GOD’S BATTLE AXE: Dealing With The Battle Of The Mind!
Ephesians 4:23 “And be RENEWED in the spirit of your MIND”.
Knowingly or unknowingly, there’s a battle and warfare that is ongoing in our minds and in thoughts twenty-four-seven. Unfortunately, the Church has sat so much on SPIRITUAL WARFARE for so long that we have lost a major BATTLE which I called – MENTAL WARFARE – The battle of the mind.
For it’s ones PICTURE that determines ones FUTURE. It is what you picture in the spirit of your MIND that determines and defines what awaits you in the future. And the vitality for SOUND MIND can NEVER be over-emphasised at all phases of doing life and living godly in God’s grace and BLESSEDNESS in Christ Jesus stead.
Proverbs 23:7 “For as he THINKS in his heart, so is he [in BEHAVIOR—one who manipulates]. He says to you, “Eat and drink,” Yet his heart is not with you [but it is begrudging the cost]” Amplified.
And there are reasons for the mind battle field when you look at the Scriptural context in Mark 5:1-20. This is simply for these reasons though not limited:
* Your mind is certainly a gateway to your life, for every event of your life is determined and defined in the mind.
* Every captive is first arrested in the mind. And your Liberty (freedom) is established or lost in the MIND.
* Your mind is the controller of your destiny. Until you are able to keep your mind under control , your life is out of control.
* As terrible as sin is, Jesus established that sin begins with a seed of thought (Matthew 5:27-30). All the devil does is to sell the thought. When you buy the thought, you become a victim of the act.
* Nobody succeeds by chance; success begins with a thought. Nobody prospers just by effort. Every act of prosperity, advancement in life has its source in the hearted-mind.
* Until you begin to think differently things will not be different. Every GRACIOUS imagination establishes you, but every human philosophy that one falls for makes a captive of you. YOU ARE A PRODUCT OF YOUR THOUGHT LIFE. For as you THINKS, so you BECOME.
* Every EVIL that comes upon Job begins with his imagination of it – Job 3:25. Every EVIL IMAGINATION is an express ACCESS for EVIL.
* Right living begins with right thinking. Great living begins with great thinking and great success begins with great success thought. Hence you don’t reply THOUGHTS with THOUGHTS but with WORDS.FINALLY – Foreknowing the above and such like, one can say that – until your sense of reasoning and mentality is corrected, your destiny is not secured. For Satan has no access to your spirit, knowing it is in relationship and fellowship with the Father God; but he has access to your mind. It is the gateway to your life. Therefore give no place to the devil or else he will give you a direction.
You are GOD’S BATTLE AXE AND WEAPON OF WAR, do something by RENEWING the spirit of your mind by the WORD to remain SOUND-MINDED. That is the HOW to BATTLE in your MIND.
SCRIPTURAL THOUGHTS WORTH PONDERING IN CONTEXT:
Romans 12:2 “And be not CONFORMED to this world: but be ye TRANSFORMED by the RENEWING of your MIND, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God“.
2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of FEAR; but of power, and of love, and of a SOUND MIND“.
2 Corinthians 10:3-6 “For though we WALK in the flesh [as mortal men], we are not carrying on our [spiritual] warfare according to the flesh and using the WEAPONS of man. 4 The WEAPONS of our WARFARE are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood]. Our WEAPONS are divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. 5 We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking EVERY THOUGHT and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ, 6 being ready to punish every act of disobedience, when your own obedience [as a church] is complete” (Amplified).
Mark 5:1-20 “And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes. 2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, 3 who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: 4 because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him. 5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones. 6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, 7 and cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. 8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. 9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many. 10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country. 11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding. 12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them. 13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea. 14 And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done. 15 And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid. 16 And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine. 17 And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts. 18 And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him. 19 Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee. 20 And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel”.
GOD’S BATTLE AXE: The Winning Spirit!
Isaiah 28:5-6 “In that day shall the LORD of hosts be for a crown of glory, and for a diadem of beauty, unto the residue of his people, And for a spirit of judgment to him that sitteth in judgment, and for strength to them that turn the battle to the gate”.
2 Corinthian 2:14 “Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savor of his knowledge by us in every place”.
1 Corinthian 14:8 “For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?”.
I dare to announce to you that the trumpet is sounded and the battle stage of life is set before you already; and the prepared horse has a winning spirit. Will you dare to be God’s battle axe and weapon of war indeed? When the trumpet is sounded for battle, all that the prepared horse has in mind is to win every battle no matter what it takes, how long it takes and where it’s done and by whom it is done. Know for certain that as it’s in the scriptures, that you are God’s battle axe and weapon of war to create and give hope and leverage to this generation and a legacy as a mark of history for posterity to look up to and depend upon our manifestations as challenged in Romans 8:19 and Jeremiah 51:20-24.
Romans 8:19 “For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God”.
Jeremiah 51:20-24 “Thou art my battle axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms; 21 and with thee will I break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with thee will I break in pieces the chariot and his rider; 22 with thee also will I break in pieces man and woman; and with thee will I break in pieces old and young; and with thee will I break in pieces the young man and the maid; 23 I will also break in pieces with thee the shepherd and his flock; and with thee will I break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and with thee will I break in pieces captains and rulers. 24 And I will render unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight, saith the Lord”.
For me as an achiever of God with a desired mandate, my prayer for you and all involved with my commission through this publication is to see each one triumph in this God intended mission to raise an amazing and majestic generation full of vigour and grace with a daring spirit to win in life.
